About

I am a 30-something gal, originally hailing from the south, and now a long-time Brooklyn resident. I bought the domain superawesomepeople.com years ago to share positive stories about everyday people.

I was inspired by NY1’s New Yorker of the Week, a news segment that highlights NYC residents who have accomplished amazing things in their communities. “New Yorker of the Week” always felt like a much-needed breath of fresh air amidst a 24-hour news cycle that seemed focused on the worst of humanity rather than the best.

And then, years passed, and I didn’t do my part to share the counter-narrative. While so much of the news follows if it bleeds, it leads, there are stories everywhere of people big and small, heralded and unsung, who are trying to make the world a better place—and who are having a real impact.

The end of a regular freelance gig dovetailed perfectly with the start of my self-isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic, and I returned to superawesomepeople.com. I suddenly had the time and a new motivation to find stories of awesome people and share them. The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a lot from us—people we love, economic security, our certainty of what comes next—but it has also given us an opportunity to reassess our priorities and focus on what really matters.

There are Super Awesome People™ living among us, even in these difficult times. They are neighborly, heroic, creative, inspirational, and necessary.

Thank you for reminding us that it is our shared humanity and our potential for greatness that makes people super awesome.
