Beauty, brains, and a commitment to helping humanity.
Bhasha Mukherjee is a 24-year-old beauty pageant queen and a doctor who specializes in respiratory medicine. In 2019, she graduated with a medical degree from the University of Nottingham before entering the 2019 Miss England competition. On the night before she was set to start as a junior doctor at Pilgrim Hospital in Boston, Lincolnshire, she won the crown and decided to put her medical career on hold for a year to focus on charity work.
Mukherjee made history as the first British Asian woman to win Miss England. After her win, she became an ambassador for several charities, and in March 2020 she was volunteering in India on behalf of the Coventry Mercia Lions Club. But as the COVID-19 pandemic spread worldwide, with nearly 100,000 cases in the UK alone (as of April 15th, 2020), Mukherjee realized that she could do more for her country by donning scrubs and getting to work as a doctor.
“I want to do my part,” she told the Washington Post. After returning home from India for a two week quarantine period, Mukherjee will be ready to do just that. Thanks for being awesome, and for setting an example for young girls—future beauty queens and doctors alike.
