My New Obsession: The Holderness Family

I recently discovered something that more than 560,000 YouTube subscribers (and 3.4 million on Facebook) already knew: the Holderness Family is Super Awesome™.

The family of four—dad Penn, mom Kim, and kids Lola and Penn Charles—first went viral with their 2013 comedy Christmas song, #Xmas Jammies, and they’ve been making comedy skits and parody music videos on YouTube ever since. Mom and dad both had careers in television news before Kim convinced Penn to leave his job in 2013 so they could run a production/digital marketing company together. And based on their millions of views and fans, it seems to be going well!

Over the past seven years the Holderness Family Empire has expanded to not only include parodies, original music and comedy sketches, but also a Health-Ish blog with lifestyle, exercise, and diet tips, a family podcast, and even marriage and parenting advice. They are quite a prolific duo—and an adorable quartet.

I haven’t explored their full back catalog of (hundreds of!) videos yet, but I am delighted by everything I *have* watched, especially anything quarantine-related. All of their videos are family-friendly and safe for kids, with the occasional swear word playfully bleeped out. The videos are bite-sized (3-5 minutes long) and super entertaining. Penn is a great singer, Kim is hilarious, the lyrics are clever, and the skits are fun and well-produced. What’s not to love?

Start with these 2020 recommendations and have a laugh.
